My Life Now Compared to 5 Years Ago
...English Composition 1 Assignment 04 11/29/12 My life now and my life five years ago are similar, but there are also some significant differences. Five years ago, I had just moved my family into a new home and neighborhood. I still live in the same home today. I had my sons living at home five years ago while now I have an empty nest. My oldest son lives in his own apartment, and my youngest son lives four hours away at college. I looked forward to this empty nest, but some evenings it gets lonely. I was responsible for taking care of my mother who had end stage Alzheimer's Disease, whereas I no longer have this role since she died in September 2010. I have a strong family relationships then as well as now. My family meant the world to me then and even more now. I worked at the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove just like I do today. On the other hand, I was a field nurse then and now I am the hospital liaison for the agency. I had a lot less responsibility at work, unlike now I have a lot that I must get completed every day. I did not have any significant goals five years ago. I was not thinking of any other career choices or advancement opportunities. I was satisfied with my job and my life as an LPN. I still love my nursing career, but I have come to the realization there are minimal opportunities for advancement. I had no plans of continuing my education in any way. I do have specific goals now. For instance, I have enrolled online at Ashworth......

Hospitals Now and 100 Years Ago
...the Last Century There are tremendous improvements in hospitals today as compared to the state of hospitals in the last 100 years. The doctors today are highly trained to use modern facilities for efficient services to their patients. The improvements have been enhanced through governments’ support by providing the necessary financial assistance and introducing facilities for research on diseases. These efforts have made the modern hospitals highly scientific and complexly institutionalized. In the last 100 years, a high percent of patients used die while undergoing operations. The whole process was extremely painful to patient, considering that administering anesthetics were a risky process. The doctors would use a pad, and then dip it in chloroform or ether before putting it over the patient’s mouth (“Advances in basic sciences and clinical practice” 2). Most patients died during operation due anesthetic overdose. Operation processes are now safe since doses are administered in accordance with the patient’s weight, age and the length of operation. Today the mortality rate, is one in 200,000. The most killer diseases in the past 100 years are now curable. For instance, Tuberculosis was among the leading killer diseases in 1907, killing one patient in every five hundred cases (Schluger 75). The patients suffering from tuberculosis would remain in hospitals for many months. Patients were advised to eats diets that were rich in fat, stay in places......

...Colie Carlson Technical writing 4th period 5-1-13 10 year reflection essay Well in the past ten years I have been going to schooling to become a veterinarian technician and an equine trainer. In those years that I have been doing so I have traveled around the country quite a lot. I am really excited to be seeing everyone again mostly all of the people I hung out with during school. For the first while after I left school I went to college to become a veterinarian technician it took me a while to figure out what I was doing and how hard it was going to be for me. After the first year of schooling I got into the hang of things and became better and learned at lot from the schooling I had to do. Then after that going into the equine trainer schooling was easier for me because I already knew the anatomy of the horses and everything that was medical I just needed to learn how to train them. After I finished all of that I was paid a lot of money to travel across the country to train peoples horses and go to clinics to teach people how to get a better connection with their horse and how to help train their horse themselves. Traveling the country was fun but I missed where I came from I haven't been able to come back here until now because of work. I really missed all of you because I missed all of the memories that we shared. Spending time with everyone and causing trouble for each other. I remember that I loved going to school just to see my friends because I......

.......That's when I moved into my new apartment. It was amazing, built for royalty with everything you could imagine made out of complete gold. I lived there for five years-those being the best five years of my life. I would die before giving my new home up. Then something absolutely terrible happened. My business, that was supposed to be helping peoples lives while supporting this life style, completely failed. After it fell through everything seemed to be going wrong, I could not afford the rent and sooner or later food became a problem as well. I was forced to live on the streets. Every night for seven days straight, the same twelve guys beat me up and took all the quarters I was saving up-which wasn't much but left me with nothing. As this started to become a pattern and I knew I wasn't able to stop it, the seventh night I decided to run hoping they wouldn't come after me. A man saw all this and rushed me into a safe zone, we talked and he felt horrible with everything that had happened. He made the decision that the only fair thing would to be to switch our lives around. I fought him on this yet not as hard as I should've because I secretly wanted this offer. His apartment was my former one, my dream place that I was kicked out of. To this day im here, back to how things used to be and waiting to hear from my old friend....

...uncertainty. As scripture reminds, “we do not know what will happen tomorrow”. Sadly the fulfillment of our dreams can sometimes turn into nightmares. This remind us not only of the uncertainty of life, but also of the need to align our desires with God’s Will. Experience us that if we allow presumption to our lives, the fulfillment of our own compulsive dreams may turn to dust and ashes. There is a legitimate desire, to be sure, but my mother thought on how to approach them. Instead of presuming that our plans an dreams will be fulfilled, we ought to say, “If the Lord will, we shall live and to this or that.” When we submit our plans our plan’s to God’s will, we can enjoy his peace in the midst of life’s uncertainty. In the next 5 years, it’s difficult to envision such an existence and future. All I know is , I will give my very best to achieve those dreams of mine, I don’t want to give a definite insight with regards to my future because only god knows what will happen tomorrow, the next day or in the near future. But one thing is for sure. I will strive and aim for my lofty ambitions and creativity. And no matter what my occupation is, or my status in life. Or what kind of family I have. I must keep work in perspective. And as long as I trust in God I will never be failed. “Do not live minimally. Live life to the maximum! Climb that mountain with confidence. 5 Year Goals
...Alejandro Gutierrez 1-5-2015 Composition 1 Looking back at the past few years of my life had been a roller coaster. I thought I knew what life was all about. Partying, drinking and smoking were consisted in my weekly routine. I then started to really take a look and think of my future. I started to question where am I going to be in 5 or 10 years? Am I going to be successful and if so? How am I going to become successful? After taking a long deep look where I am going to be in 5 years I thought about joining the military to build a foundation and see where it takes me. One deployment and 9 countries later I found myself at home collection unemployment check. I had no skills beside kicking in doors and shooting my M4 rifle. It was surely something I wasn’t going to put on a resume. A few unsuccessful interviews and a bottle of Jack I come to the conclusion I needed to go to college. This is how I ended up here at the Brown Mackie College. Being a bit puzzled about what I wanted to get a degree I decided to get a degree in IT because I love being around technology. I like to problem solve and I can spend my whole day in front of a computer. So far I believe that I’ve completed half of my goals dating back from 2010. Going to school for IT had landed me a great job at Hewlett-Packard (HP) doing what I love. I’m surrounded by people who have the same interest and passion for problem solving. Not to say very smart and intelligent......

How Do I See My Self 10 Years from Now
...How do I see myself 10 years from now? It is a human nature to desire for something beyond ourselves. I may not be a perfect person that wishes for a perfect life. But one thing is for sure, what I wanted is what I really deserved. Dream big. No one can say what we are going to be in our future, we are the drivers of our own lives, whatever road it may be, it’s either a smooth or even rocky road. We are the planners and doers of our own lives. I’m a kind of person that never stops on dreaming, wishing for something that I really wanted to have, material things or even something that will make me and my family happy and satisfied. Back when I was only a child, I keep on saying to myself that I want a big house, a car, and I wanted to be rich so that I can help my family. I want to travel around the world with my family, something that we can’t do before. There’s nothing wrong in dreaming, as long as we have the courage and passion to pursue all of that. Keep on dreaming, but dot forget to make it real. Hard work, perseverance, and faith to God are the key. God is the center of all things; he makes all impossible things possible. And as I see myself 10 years from now, I’m already 28 years old who already graduated from this course BS Math – Business Application. And after I graduated, I applied on a job that is related to my course on a prestigious company. And as my hard work was paid off, I got promoted in a higher position as the......

...Five Year HR Plan 2006-2011 Planning Committee: Five Year Plan Introduction SMC Company is becoming a leader in manufacturing ergonomic office equipment. The company is located in a small mid-western town of 30,000 people with a local labor market population of approximately 40% minority. SMC has been successful in diversifying its labor force; two-years ago the racial demographic makeup of the company was 90% white, now SMC has a bilingual workforce. SMC is faced with the challenge of remaining competitive in the local labor market where unemployment rate is lower than 2.2%. Over the past two years SMC have experiences many changes such as a shrinking local labor market, rising labor cost, bilingual workforce, accident rate increase of 50%, and SMC’s CEO is terminally ill. Furthermore, demand for SMC’s product continued to increase and the company has experienced unsuccessful labor organizing activities. The plan will address all aspects of what SMC needs to do in the next five years, with the emphasis on five major areas: staffing, employee development and training, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and safety and health. Ongoing issues of technological advances and diversity and demographics are also addressed. Staffing In an ongoing effort to address many of the challenges associated with staffing, the leaders at SMC identified a plan to utilize the “Strategic HRM” competency approach. Utilizing this approach allows the......

Ferron M, Boudiffa M, Arsenault M, Rached M, Pata M, Giroux S, Elfassihi L, Kisseleva M, Majerus PW, Rousseau F, Vacher J. Source: Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal, Montréal, Québec H2W 1R7, Canada. Abstract: Osteoporosis is a multifactorial genetic disease characterized by reduction of bone mass due to dysregulation of osteoclast differentiation or maturation. Herein, we identified a regulator of osteoclastogenesis, the murine homolog of inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase type IIα (Inpp4bα). Expression of Inpp4bα is detected from early osteoclast differentiation to activation stage. Targeted expression of native Inpp4bα ex vivo repressed whereas phosphatase-inactive Inpp4bα stimulated osteoclast differentiation. Inpp4bα acts on intracellular calcium level that modulates NFATc1 nuclear translocation and activation. In vivo mice deficient in Inpp4b displayed increased osteoclast differentiation rate and potential resulting in decreased bone mass and osteoporosis. Importantly, INPP4B in human was identified as a susceptibility locus for osteoporosis. This study defined Inpp4b as a major modulator of the osteoclast differentiation and as a gene linked to variability of bone mineral density in mice and humans. Mice lacking bone sialoprotein (BSP) lose bone after......

In the next five years I would like to see myself in an HR manager role for a well-known international corporate company. My current position is an administration manager for a private care home and involves using complex computerised systems to input residents and employee’s details to keep a record of everything and update information when needed as well as a logging in and logging out using a hand print scan system to generate the payroll system at the end of each month. I am still adapting to new rules of the game as I started at the end of January this year so the process of learning is crucial for me during this new period.
My role involves a variety of different tasks for instance making sure all policies and procedures are adhered to assisting the home manager maintain a good CQC (Care Quality Control) rating within the sector and ensuring requirements to health and safety, local authority, environmental and other regulatory bodies are adhered to as well as managing people and delegating tasks efficiently to other staff members. Communication is a huge factor in the role so I could say that is one of my strength’s when relating it to the SWOT analysis.
There are several skills I require to improve and develop throughout my educational and professional career timeline and this is one of my main reasons I have created a SWOT analysis to demonstrate clearly what my current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are (see appendix 2). MY CDP plan will help me eliminate my weaknesses and improve my abilities to succeed towards my SMART goals as well as achieve my long term goals of becoming an HR manager in addition to becoming an associate of the CIPD.
I have set ‘.. SMART goals to work towards improving myself and increase my HR knowledge making sure I apply Kolb’s theory of setting the task, doing it then reflecting back on the different tasks to see if I have improve or how I could improve next time I have to carry out the same procedure.
During one of the lectures I took part in a learning and styles Questionnaire taken from Honey & Mumford the results showed that I am a reflector learner highlighting that my most preferred learning style involves appreciating time to think about things, collecting data, thinking before giving a conclusion, keeping a low profile during meetings, reflecting back on real life work situations I can agree that it is accurate as this is why one of my smart goals is to improve my assertiveness when it comes to attending meetings as well as delegating tasks to others. My most preferred learning style could also be an addition to the strengths box in my personal SWOT analysis (appendix 2). The questionnaire also showed that my least preferred learning style is the activist learner who likes to try anything once, becomes bored easily is extrovert, not sceptical and useful to have in teams this is certainly an area I can improve in and apply during work practices for instance trying a different method of doing the end of week reports or being more extrovert during staff meetings.
